Silvio Tavares
Silvio Tavares is President and CEO of VantageScore the leading national credit scoring company established as an independent joint venture company of Experian (LON: EXPN), Equifax (NYSE:EFX) and Transunion (NYSE:TRU). Over 3,700 banks, credit unions and fin-techs use VantageScore credit scores, including Chase, Bank of America, Capital One and Credit Karma. Last year, over 42 billion VantageScores were used in North America and VantageScore is now approved by the FHFA for use in underwriting all mortgages guaranteed by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. In his four years as President and CEO, VantageScore’s usage has more than tripled, growing over 300%.
Silvio is a pioneer in developing advanced financial data algorithms, AI and macro-economic indicators trained on real consumer behavior data. At VantageScore, Tavares launched CreditGauge™ one of the most widely followed monthly macro-indicators for consumer credit utilization. As an executive at Visa, where he was President of Visa EMVCo, he pioneered the use of neural networks to detect credit card payment fraud in real time. Previously as an executive at Fiserv (NASDAQ:FISV), where he was Senior Vice President, he pioneered and launched SpendTrend™ the first macro-economic indicator for US consumer spending based on credit card purchases.
Tavares is also a sought-after public company board director. Silvio is a member of the board of directors of CSG International (NASDAQ: CSGS), a leading publicly traded provider of payment and digital engagement services to large mobile and cable operators where he is the board Compensation Committee Chairman. Silvio previously served on the board of directors of the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco established by the US Congress to serve the liquidity needs of regional banks and credit unions chartered in California, Arizona and Nevada. He also previously served on the board of CPI (NASDAQ: PMTS) a leading provider of smart payment cards where he was the board Audit Committee Chairman.
Silvio appears regularly on broadcast television including CNBC TV, Bloomberg TV and FOX News TV to provide insights on macro-economic trends and consumer spending. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from Boston University, MBA from Boston College and BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Tufts University. Tavares is an inventor or co-inventor of over 16 issued patents in data analytics, AI, machine learning and financial data.
