Chris Helwig is a Managing Director in Santander’s fixed income strategy group, leading single-family agency and non-agency strategy with 25 years of experience in MBS and related structured products. Chris joined Santander in 2024 from BMO Capital markets where he was a Managing Director in the Residential Mortgage Finance group. Prior to BMO, Chris was the head of mortgage credit strategy at Amherst Pierpont where he helped lead the firm's principal residential credit strategies. He held various roles at Deutsche Bank Securities across mortgage credit trading, structuring and research. Chris started his career at Bear Stearns where he ultimately served as a Managing Director in the Financial Analytics and Structured Transactions (FAST) Portfolio Strategies group. Chris has a B.A. in Government studies from Georgetown University.
